Los Angeles – Last night, actor James Cromwell hosted a fundraiser for PETA under the stars at the Houdini Estate in Los Angeles. Guests, including comedian Bill Maher, enjoyed a vegan spread (including kelp-based vegan caviar from celebrity hotspot Crossroads and delectable desserts from Chaumont Vegan bakery), cocktails, magic performances, and mind-bending stories about some of the group’s greatest victories, from helping thousands of beagles confined at Envigo escape from laboratory cages to making fur disappear from stores. Photos are available here.

Cromwell—who has been arrested multiple times, including while protesting against SeaWorld’s cruel marine parks and Texas A&M University’s experiments on dogs—said, “Whenever PETA asks me to protest for animals, my only question is ‘When and where?’ If I’m not shooting a film or TV series, count me in. I will gladly hold a banner or sit in any courtroom or jail cell—until every animal is free!”

Guests also dined on vegan salmon tartare and Beyond Meat beef wellington, while desserts included hazelnut rose water cake, passion fruit pudding, orange blossom cake pops, Earl Grey croissants, and raspberry vanilla tarts.

PETA—whose motto reads that “animals are not ours to experiment on, eat, wear, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
